Looking for your outdoor space to stand out from the rest? The Outdoor GreatRoom Company has ready-to-finish fireplaces that will complement any backyard space. Read through our options below and find the perfect fireplace for your yard.
What is a ready-to-finish fireplace?
If you go the route of using liquid propane or natural gas when creating the perfect fire feature in your outdoor room, one option to look into is an outdoor fireplace. Instead of having your flame be the centerpiece of your outdoor living room, an outdoor gas fireplace serves as a wall, backdrop, and unique viewing area for all of your friends and family to gather around.
Single-Sided vs. See-Through: What’s the difference?
Another unique factor of OGC fireplaces is the option between a single-sided or see-through fireplace. The difference of between these two options ultimately depends on the needs and landscape of your backyard. If your patio or deck gives you an undesirable view of your neighbor’s property, or you would like a little more privacy, a single-sided fireplace could be a great fit for you. Besides offering an ambient collection of flames for friends and family to gather around, a single-sided fireplace can serve as a privacy wall between you and your neighbor. Using a single-sided fireplace is also a creative way to create more of an enclosure as you build the walls of your outdoor room.
A see-through ready-to-finish fireplace is the perfect option for someone looking to accent an already beautiful view. The benefit of a see-through fireplace is the frame it creates as you look through the view of your backyard landscape. Being able to see what’s happening on the other side of an RTF fireplace is crucial when looking at the lake, country horizon or grandkids playing in the lawn.
The Finishing Touches
After you’ve made your decision on what fireplace will be best for your outdoor room, the final step is choosing the size and materials that will be incorporated into your see-through or single-sided fireplace. The wide variety of sizes available, ranging from 40-120 inches in length, allow for you to fill the needs of your backyard living area. Any kind of stone, brick, or non-combustible material can be used to finish the exterior of your one-of-a-kind fireplace. RTF fireplaces are made to be finished on-site to match your landscaping, hardscaping, or exterior design, making it the ultimate do-it-yourself experience.
“The RTF fireplace line is my new favorite product we are manufacturing,” said David Shimek, Western US & Canada Sales Manager at OGC. “The opportunities are endless! It gives the customer the option to design the fireplace to their own liking, without having OGC build a custom unit for them.”
When deciding on what type of fire pit to have in your outdoor room, it is important to weigh all the options. Looks and safety are both equally important when choosing your ideal fire pit. With gas fire pits, it is easy to customize the way you want it to look with either tempered glass or faux wood set in the burner. Safety-wise, gas fire pits and fireplaces can be much safer and less toxic than wood-burning fire pits.
According to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), wood smoke, although it is natural, can be toxic and impact the health of your family negatively. Wood smoke contains an abundance of chemicals, which when burned are released into the air we breath, can be toxic and cause short and long-term health effects. For more information on wood smoke exposure, visit the MPCA info page.
For those looking to “go green,” gas and natural gas fire pits are better for the environment and a much safer, healthier option. When used correctly they do not produce toxic emissions, are easier to control, and will not produce smoke. They also produce more heat, as the flame is much hotter than a wood-burning fire pit. They are also quick to light, run continuously and have fewer fire hazards.
The backyard is meant to be a comforting space. Privacy, relaxation, and entertaining guests are priorities when it comes to the perfect outdoor living area. From a contemporary design to something a little more classical, here are eight different fire pit options perfect for any outdoor theme:
Contemporary fire pits are a popular commodity as homeowners are looking to upgrade their outdoor living space. Whether you have a pool, concrete porch, or a more modern landscape, the Cove Gas Fire Pit Bowl is a tasteful option when paired with outdoor furniture or placed poolside. Consider pairing a White Cove fire bowl with a pop of color, like royal blue furniture, for a trendy yet sophisticated feel. The Natural Grey option combined with other neutral tones is that perfect combination for a contemporary backyard, while the Black color is great for making a bold statement on any deck design.
2. Denali Brew
Hosting backyard BBQs and having a brew with friends is something that never gets old. A medium to large backyard space houses this fire pit with ease.
Fashionable, elegant, dashing. The outdoor space doesn’t have to be woodsy or rugged for every backyard area. If you are someone who appreciates an aesthetic design and loves the outdoors, grab your best bottle of wine and a cheese platter, and head to the fire with an Uptown fire pit. The two-tiered design of the Uptown provides a stunning fire along with enough tabletop space to hold drinks and appetizers.

What country filled the blank for you? In a world full of competitive pricing, it can be difficult to notice the minor details, such as where a product is made. When you purchase a product made in the USA, whether it be a fire pit table or a pair of boots, you are making a decision that will leave you feeling better and made to run the distance.
There is always a sense of pride when supporting the land of the free, home of the brave, but there are also tangible, hidden benefits when choosing American-made products.
Safety and Durability
Products made in the USA are made to last. With strict safety standards set in place, such as the Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL), a USA made fire pit is required to prioritize health and safety… something that should be done when ‘playing with fire.’ A newer feature the Outdoor GreatRoom Company (OGC) offers is its Crystal Fire® Plus burner that includes a safety ignition and shutdown valve that automatically closes if the gas source cannot be detected.
Using durable materials, such as Supercast concrete or impenetrable stainless steel, ensures a structure and design that will survive harsh and extreme weather conditions. The Cove Gas Fire Pit Bowl, in 3 unique color options, is a great option to consider. Its unique, upscale design and concrete-enforced structure has become one of the OGC’s most popular products.
Personalized Customer Service
The journey in purchasing from U.S. manufacturers also tends to be less of a hassle. Whether you are looking at a contemporary fire pit or a do-it-yourself pergola, we understand that this can be a big investment. Buying local allows for industry experts to guide you into getting the best product for your outdoor room. And, if there is ever an issue with the product, you will experience readily available customer service that will provide a timely and personalized response to your needs. A neighborly relationship is something you just don’t get from overseas production.
Are you looking to find an outdoor accessory that complements your backyard landscaping or house? Consider yet another benefit for products made in the USA—customization. Being able to customize a standard fire pit into your own, one-of-a-kind product is much easier when done domestically. The wait time for a custom project can be very long if done internationally, but with all areas of operation done “in-house,” or under one roof, your sales expert is just a walk away from the engineering department.
Although there are numerous benefits to buying products made in the USA, like faster shipping, a more personal experience, and a product that is made with tender love and care, your decision to purchase domestically sparks a movement to support local businesses.
The Outdoor GreatRoom Company is a family company with family values, and our goal is for you to feel like family.

As the end of indoor fireplace season is in close sight, sales can start to quiet down. Continue the momentum into the spring by expanding your product offerings to the outdoors. With more homeowners wanting to bring their entertaining and relaxing to their backyards, now is the time to take advantage of the trend. Check out these tips for a smooth transition to the outdoor space.
How to Start
While it may seem somewhat unknown, hearth dealers can sometimes be the most knowledgeable about outdoor products. With expertise in fireplaces, a gas fire pit table is an easy transition for a hearth sales team. Start with a reliable fire pit line that would work well for your customer base. Quite often, the same loyal customers will come back to buy their fire pit in the spring. When choosing a brand to display in store, select one with a more robust offering of styles with safety and reliability to back them up. Then choose furniture to compliment the fire table. Your sales rep can provide insight into popular products or pairings for your showroom. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of their expertise!
Pro tip: select at least one fire pit table from each price point or range. A variety of fire pits in different price points appeal to different customers.
Think Spring Now
Once you select your outdoor living products to carry and display, start promoting them now. If you have the space, setup a few outdoor layouts to display now. The sooner you have fire tables on display, the sooner sales start up for them.
When customers come in for their indoor fireplace or service, mention a promotion or discount to come back for their fire pit in a few months. Keep up with any of the manufacturer’s promotions throughout the year. The promotions can be an easy, risk-free way for your business to provide a great deal for customers.
Simple display signage and ads can go a long way for promoting your expansive offerings. Depending on your region, the outdoor season can start pretty early as fire pits extend the season with their warmth and glow. Invite your sales rep into the store for sales training now so your showroom team is ready for the season. The more training they can receive, the more comfortable they’ll be for successfully selling the products.
Before you know it, you’ll be the go-to store for all things fire – indoors and out! Sign-up to learn how to become an OGC dealer.
With the updated ANSI Z21.97-2017 standards, it’s more important now than ever to ask whether a gas fire pit is safe for your home and family. When choosing a fire pit for your backyard or patio, make sure to check out these important factors.
UL Listing ensures your fire pit is compliant to the updated standards. Any outdoor product manufactured before January 17, 2020 is still safely listed under the old standard. However, any product manufactured after that day must be compliant. The updated safety standard requires passing more vigorous testing. If a company touts the product is UL Listed, you can rest assured that it is compliant to safety standards.
While most manufacturers promote their outdoor-rated, durable products, it’s important to be able to differentiate from the truly products and those better left alone. When it comes to your outdoor investment, a reliable and strong outdoor product will maximize your dollar for less.
Look for products made of #304 stainless steel. #304 is a grade of stainless steel. While other companies may suggest that stainless steel is inferior, the truth is that no material is corrosion free. However, stainless steel is corrosion resistant. Brass is also another common burner construction option. When considering brass products, recall that brass does contain lead. Even “lead-free” brass contains some lead. Looking up all the facts on the material of the burner can ensure you choose the best construction.
While it may not seem like a major benefit to buy from a U.S. manufacturer, there are plenty of hidden benefits of it. With a made in the USA fire pit, the manufacturer is more likely to prioritize quality and safety. With production completed in-house, experts typically are able to do quality checks to ensure the best products for your home. Also, those same experts are your neighbor, friend, etc. They use the products themselves, understand the various climates and conditions, and build the products to last.
As for the fire pit table itself, search for high-quality materials such as powder-coated steel, composite, resin wicker, stucco, or concrete blend (like Supercast).
When in doubt, a company with quality products will promote a warranty of some sort. However, it’s important to read the fine print. The manufacturer may suggest a certain type of warranty that sounds protective at first, but quite often it includes many restrictions like voiding if the burner comes in contact with water (like rain) or isn’t covered. If unsure what the manufacturer covers under warranty, don’t hesitate to contact them directly to ask. It’s better to know ahead of time before making the investment.

Gas fire pit accessories add an even more unique, upscale look to your fire pit table. Each type of fire pit accessory – fire media, glass guard, and protective cover – offer their own benefits and value. But what are your add-on options for your fire table? What are the accessories for? Why would I want a glass wind guard, protective cover, or other fire media? Let’s breakdown each accessory option.
Fire pit media comes in all different shapes and sizes. Check out the 101 on fire media here. Whether you call it fire pit pebbles, stones, or gems, the tempered glass gems provide a modern look to your fire table. Every fire pit table includes clear glass gems. Changing the color of the glass gems is an easy way to update the fire table look with minimal investment – even mix and match for a unique design. Lava rocks are also a popular look that provides a more traditional fire pit appearance, especially when paired with the faux log set.
But why fire media? Fire media is required for operating a gas fire pit, fireplace, or burner. Fire media helps evenly disperse the heat and prevents from any damage to the burner pan. When choosing fire pit or burner filler, ensure the media is approved for use with fire. All Outdoor GreatRoom Company fire pit media filler is safe and approved for use with our fire pit tables, fireplaces, and burners.
Glass Wind Guard
A glass wind guard is a wind shield, wall, or barrier for the flames on your fire pit table. Glass wind guards are made of tempered glass that’s safe next to the heat and flames on your fire table. For families with kids and/or pets, it’s a highly recommended fire pit accessory to keep little hands and wagging tails from the flames or attractive fire media. The glass wind guard also protects the flame from wind or debris.
For an added convenience, the folding wind guard is a 2-in-1 burner cover and glass wind guard. The panes of tempered glass detach from the base to set up for a wind guard and down for a burner cover. The folding wind guard eliminates the need to switch the glass wind guard and burner cover every time, getting you one step closer to enjoying your cozy fire whenever.
A fire pit protective cover preserves your outdoor space investment. It keeps outdoor elements – rain, snow, debris, etc. away from the fire pit table. The breathable cover also lets excess moisture out, protecting the fire table’s construction. With any gas fire pit table, we highly recommend a protective cover. While our fire pit tables are tested against the elements, the cover increases the longevity for even more years of enjoyment in your backyard.
When it comes to a gas fire pit table for a contract position in a commercial space such as a hotel, restaurant, brewery, apartment complex, etc., extra safety features are available. A key valve can be added to your gas fire pit purchase. Simply use the key to turn the fire pit on, adjust the flame height, or turn the fire pit off. Then only designated individuals have access to adjusting the fire pit.
Every gas fire pit table or individual burner pan can be equipped with a direct spark ignition (DSI) system. What’s the difference between a DSI system and a battery-operated system? This article breaks it down. But a DSI system provides increased safety features. For instance, if the flames go out due to wind, the system will attempt to relight. If it fails to relight, the system will turn off. The DSI system can also be used with a remote (sold separately from the system) for increased convenience.
Visit your local retailer for accessory options for your fire pit table, or start browsing now.
Our gas fire pit tables are UL Listed as a decorative appliance not a cooking appliance. Therefore, they are not safety tested or designed for cooking food over. You can roast marshmallows over the propane or natural gas fire pit. Our gas fire pits offer warm, realistic flames with a smoke-free design. The predictability of the fire makes for great marshmallow roasting. However, make sure to keep the glass gems and burner ports clean. Consult your manual for proper care and maintenance of your gas fire pit.
