Can I Roast Marshmallows on my Gas Fire Pit?

Can I Roast Marshmallows on my Gas Fire Pit?

National S'mores Day is August 10th. One of the best parts of enjoying a beautiful fire is roasting marshmallows over the open flame. While we love the beautiful craftsmanship, dancing flames, and relaxing atmosphere that comes along with our gas fire pits, there are fewer moments greater than achieving a golden brown marshmallow.

Can you roast marshmallows over your propane or natural gas fire pit? Of course! However, gas fire pit tables are UL listed as a decorative gas appliance (not a cooking appliance), so make sure to clean off the burner and fire media (what is fire media?) to ensure the burner ports stay clean. Since our gas fire pit flames are easier to control and more predictable than wood-burning flames, you can be a roasted mallow master. Even if you choose an individual burner and start a DIY fire pit project, you can still roast marshmallows over it.

While a toasted marshmallow is perfection on its own, eating s'mores around a fire is a great tradition. We compiled some fun s'more twists to the traditional treat. Try them all out and find your favorite one so you'll be ready for National S'mores Day on August 10th. Don't forget your camping checklist too!

Let's start with the traditional s'more: graham cracker, milk chocolate, and marshmallow. You can amp up the flavor by spreading some Nutella® or nut butter on the graham cracker before you create the campfire sandwich. Try drizzling some honey, agave nectar, or caramel for an extra boost of sweetness. If you have a great edible cookie dough recipe, add a helping (or two) of your favorite cookie dough. For a healthier add-on, fruits such as strawberries, bananas, or other berries take your s'more to the next level. Add your favorite type of nut such as pecans or sliced almonds for a salty s'more surprise. If you are an even bigger lover of salty-sweet treats, everything is better with crispy bacon.

Are you tired of classic graham crackers? Twist off the cookie of an Oreo®, place your toasted marshmallow over the delicious filling, and replace your cookie on top. Milk's Favorite Cookie™ comes in a variety of flavors, so don't be afraid to be bold and try a unique flavor. Some other great substitutes include fudge striped cookies, chocolate mint cookies, or even flavored graham crackers (cinnamon is our favorite). Try them all and create your own summer bucket list: s'mores edition!

Now for a twist to the milk chocolate bar. No matter how you pronounce Reese's®, you can't go wrong with adding one to your s'mores. For the white chocolate lovers, cookies and cream chocolate bars are an easy swap that will make your taste buds happy. Your favorite chocolate bar is sure to be a hit on your next creative s'more recipe.

Mix and match all of these suggestions and the s'more combinations are plentiful. Become your own s'mores master and create your own unique smores recipe over your propane or natural gas fire pit.
