How We Build Outdoor Gas Fire Pits with Sustainability and Eco-friendliness Top of Mind

At The Outdoor GreatRoom Company, we understand sustainability and eco-friendliness aren't just buzzwords or trends, they're a necessity and something we take a great deal of pride in when it comes to creating outdoor fire. But we don't just talk the talk, we walk the walk too.

Materials

The materials we use aren't chosen at random or just because we think they look nice (well that's part of it), but often have other purpose. In our Uptown Collection, the top uses poly wood, a material made from recycled high-density polyethylene plastic.

Many of our products and collections also use aluminum, a material that not only holds up to harsh weather conditions like warm sunlight, sea salt spray, snow and more, but is one of the easiest and most efficient materials to recycle. This means, when the fire table eventually reaches the end of its lifecycle, it can be recycled and repurposed into a new aluminum product without losing any of the properties that make it so durable and versatile.

Crystal Fire Plus burners are hallmark product at The Outdoor GreatRoom Company, not only because they burn more efficiently that other competing burners (more on that in a bit), but also because they're made from commercial-grade #304 rust-resistant stainless steel, helping them survive in harsh climates and resisting corrosion, ensuring you have a burner that lasts!

Overall, we prioritize materials that are long-lasting and durable giving you a fire pit you can depend on and fewer parts and components ending up in landfills in the long run!

Fire Pits Prioritizing Gas Instead of Wood

We've published an entire blog on this topic, so we won't spend too much rehashing that, but the environmental benefits of a fire using liquid propane or natural gas over wood are significant.

Wood smoke, while natural, can release harmful chemicals and contribute to air pollution, posing health risks, particularly for individuals with respiratory issues. According to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), wood smoke contains toxic chemicals that can impact both short- and long-term health.

Liquid Propane and Natural Gas on the other hand are the greener choice, producing fewer emissions while offering a healthier option for those with allergies or asthma due to their clean-burning nature.

Efficient Burning

As we mentioned earlier, we take a lot of pride in our Crystal Fire Plus burners. They're designed with efficiency in mind and specialized ports that create the tallest, fullest flames on the market. The BTU output remains constant as well, ensuring you're not quickly burning through an LP tank or your natural gas.

Additionally, our burners are designed with several innovative features to help the avoid shutdowns in rain, wind and other conditions that affect flame. In situations where the flame does go out, the burner is designed to enter a safety shutdown mode that makes sure excess gas isn't bleeding into the air.

Local Impact & Future Plans

OGC also works locally to ensure the area in and around our main office remains clean and tidy. Our office is located near a busy county road in an industrial park that can often see some higher winds resulting in debris and trash building up in the grassy areas surrounding the building.

A few times each year, our entire staff comes together to clean up this trash ensuring the area we call home stays clean!

We're continuing to work to find additional ways to be environmentally conscience as well including consciously purchasing LED lights to ensure efficiencies when we built our facility as LED lights use far less energy than traditional lights.

We also have plans in the near future to completely eliminate the use of styrofoam in our packaging and to replace it with different materials that are more eco-friendly and sustainable. Follow our social media channels for additional details on this change!
