Understanding the Importance of the Size and Shape of Your Gas Fire Pit

Making the switch from a traditional wood-burning fire pit to (or taking the leap directly into) a gas fire pit can be intimidating, especially when you’re browsing the Outdoor GreatRoom Company’s selection of more than 40 different and unique fire tables. How do you know what size to get? What shape? There are a lot of factors to consider, in this blog we’ll walk you through the beginning steps of your fire pit selection process: choosing the right shape and size for your fire pit!

Size

It seems like a no brainer that size should be the first major consideration you make when choosing your perfect gas fire pit, but it can be so easy to waiver from the obvious and picture yourself sitting around a grand fire pit and huge, gigantic flames  - and hey maybe that’s for you in your outdoor space, but for others maybe that’s not the case!

The best advice we can give is to plan your outdoor space with your fire pit as the focal point. Decide where you’re going to put it, what type of furniture you want, how many people you can fit around it, etc.

For example, if you have a 10x10” concrete patio and want to have a gas fire pit, chairs and a side table or two, you probably don’t want a huge fire pit, something smaller like our Providence or a 29” Cove Bowl, or midsized like our 44” Havenwood or 42” Cirvalo, will help to create a more cohesive space!

But if you have a large outdoor space with a things like sectional, pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen, etc. a small table like a Stonefire may look out of place, so you’d likely want to consider a larger table option like an Uptown, Cove Linear 54” or a even a Kenwood Dining Table to help fill the space and allow for more people to gather around the fire.

Shape

Shape is another important feature of a gas fire pit that shouldn’t be overlooked! Much like a fire pit’s size, shape can have a big impact on how it fits into to an outdoor space, what furniture to buy and how people gather around it.

Consider this picture of our Cirvalo 48” fire table! It looks very natural in this setting because it’s paired with a round sofa. A similar sized square fire pit say like a Cove Square or Sierra would look a little out of place with a round sofa. Same with a longer rectangular or linear fire table like the Brooks or Kenwood Chat Height Fire Table.

But square or rectangular fire pits can be great for symmetry and balance! Look at this example of our Montego Fire Table with a longer sofa accented with two individual chairs on either side of the shorter ends, creating a cozy seating area with the Montego as the focal point!

Here’s another example that features the Alcott fire table, where one singular bench is placed behind it acting as both a fire feature and table for drinks and snacks, allowing this couple to enjoy the views off their porch.

While a round fire table could work in this scenario, a linear bench and linear fire table create excellent cohesion adding curb appeal to their space!
